Sanders and Cruz win big
Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz won in Wisconsin, and Bernie Sanders won in Wyoming, the last stage before the primary in New York. Even though his rival Hillary Clinton maintains a clear lead in the overall race the latest win on Saturday highlights his seven wins among the eight latest states. Next week’s New York primary will be crucial for both candidates.
Ted Cruz also tightened the lead by Donald Trump with his win in Wisconsin. Mr. Cruz has 520 delegates to 743 for Mr. Trump.
Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson sworn in as Prime Minister Thursday
Two days after former Icelandic Prime Minister Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson resigned amid mounting protests in response to leaked documents from a Panamanian law firm revealing his links to an offshore company, Sigurdur Ingi Johannson was sworn in as Iceland’s new Prime Minister. The bitter memories of the financial crisis, which hit the growing economy in 2008, has been the underlying factors of the Iceland’s furious reaction to the Panama papers.
Sigurdur Ingi Johannsoon had been the country’s agriculture minister prior to his appointment as Prime Minister.
Man suspected to be “Man in the hat” of attack on Brussels airport in custody
The third suspect—the “man in the hat” identified as Mohamed Abrini—was taken into custody. He is believed to be the last surviving suspect of the March 22 attack, which left 22 people killed in Brussels. He was first seen in a surveillance video with two men suspected to be suicide bombers. This video has helped Belgian authorities in identifying suspects of the attack.
It is believed that through further investigations, remaining members of networks of the Islamic State in Belgium and France will be revealed.
